# Browser support

Check browser support for local folders, video previews, desktop notifications, and the floating Activity window.

## Local folders

Use a current desktop version of Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera for automatic downloads to a folder.

Open **Downloads** in the account area and look under **Default Downloads Folder**. If your browser supports folder access, a folder button lets you choose a location and grant permission.

If it does not, the page shows a warning and hides the folder controls. **to folder** is also disabled during job creation. You can still use [Render Network Manager or browser downloads](/docs/web-app/download-frames.md).

If your browser refuses a particular folder, choose another location that it allows. The site needs permission to save files in your chosen folder.

## Video previews

In a job's **Download Settings**, choose **Video**. The app checks whether your browser can create an MP4 video. If it cannot, a message appears and **Download Selection** stays disabled for videos.

A browser may support video creation but still be unable to create a video at the chosen resolution and frame rate. If that happens, try **Hi-Res** off or another browser. See [Create a video preview](/docs/web-app/video-preview.md) for the complete workflow.

This check applies to creating an MP4. The [job player](/docs/web-app/review-and-approve-frames.md#play-the-sequence) plays frame images and does not require a generated video.

## Desktop notifications

Desktop notifications require both browser support and permission for the site. The browser may ask for permission when the app first tries to show one. If you previously blocked them, allow notifications in the browser's site settings before trying again.

The app must be open to deliver these notifications. Use [Notifications](/docs/web-app/notifications.md) to choose which updates appear on your desktop or in the app.

## Floating Activity window

**Open in a floating window** is offered on desktop computers. If clicking it does not open a window, allow pop-ups for the site in your browser. The button is hidden on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://know.rendernetwork.com/docs/help/browser-support.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
