# macOS, iPad and Octane X

Prepare Octane X scenes on a Mac or iPad for rendering on the Render Network.

## Get Octane X

Use OTOY's [Octane X listing for Mac](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/octane-x/id1609342064?platform=mac) or [Octane X listing for iPad](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/octane-x/id1609342064). Check the listing's compatibility requirements for your device and operating system before installing.

For an Octane plug-in inside Cinema 4D or another 3D application, check the plug-in requirements on [OTOY's product page](https://home.otoy.com/render/octane-render/purchase/). The Standalone app and a plug-in have different installation requirements.

## Prepare the scene

On a Mac, use the [Octane Standalone and ORBX](/docs/prepare-your-scene/octane-standalone-and-orbx.md) workflow to check the scene and save a package.

Octane X on iPad also supports ORBX scene exchange. Save the scene as an ORBX package, then make the file available on the device you use for the web app. OTOY describes this exchange workflow in its [Octane X for iPad overview](https://home.otoy.com/octane-x-ipad/).

Use [Supported software and file formats](/docs/get-started/supported-software.md) to check the rendering route, then follow [Upload Scenes](/docs/web-app/upload-scenes.md). Browser-dependent features, including direct downloads to a chosen folder, are covered in [Browser support](/docs/help/browser-support.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://know.rendernetwork.com/docs/prepare-your-scene/apple-and-octane-x.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
